PROJECT BRIEF                                                         Explainer Video︎ 2024

The goal for this video was to explain a topic based on research that we had found interesting and make a 2-minute exp;ainer video educating others on our findings. For my video, I wanted to work with somrthing familiar to me, the power of music. WIth that in mind, I decided to make my video based on the social and functional impressions that the creation of MIDI had on the industry as a whole.

The Goal︎

I wanted make a video talking to the transition from analog to digital means of producing music in the 1980s. I want to create a video detailing how this transition changed the overall sound of music in that time period and how that has influenced the current state of music. Additionally I'd like to talk about this has influenced the culture overall.

The Concept︎

The increasing popularity of home studio audio equipment in the 1980s broke the barrier to entry for musicians who didn’t have the means to pay for studio time. One specific technology that made a lot of this possible was MIDI, or Musical Instrument Digital Interface. This allowed for musician to make easy adjustments to their instruments without having to adjust a lot. This newly gained ease of use when it came to electronic music made it so both new and older musicians a more manageable ease of entry into the new world of digital music production.

My goal was to marry the visual style of my generation’s most popular rap music and my research into the creation of the MIDI to showcase how people were impacted by this new technological breakthrough in the music industry.
